Mr. Chapekar has 10 years of technical, operating and private equity experience in the life sciences industry. Mr. Chapekar joined Montreux Equity Partners in 2001 and has been a General Partner/Managing Member of Montreux since 2004. Prior to joining Montreux, Mr. Chapekar was a Manager of Strategy and Business Development at Pharmacia (previously Monsanto) responsible for strategic development, in-licensing, acquisitions and investments in life sciences companies and technologies. While at Monsanto, he also worked on several growth and strategic initiatives including developing growth strategies for key products/geographies, accelerating launch of new products, rationalizing the discovery and development processes and developing new business opportunities through the Growth Enterprises Business Incubator.
Mr. Chapekar has received a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay; an M.S. in Engineering from the University of Kentucky, where he pursued graduate research in cellular bioengineering, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. At Stanford, he was founding co-Chairman of the Stanford Global Entrepreneurs’ Challenge and co-President of the Stanford GSB Venture Capital Club.
Mr. Chapekar is currently a member of the board of directors of Montreux portfolio companies, Glaukos, Kanisa and PercSys. Mr. Chapekar also serves as Montreux’s representative to the board of directors of SkinMedica. Additionally, he has been actively involved with several Montreux portfolio companies including ARYx, Asthmatx, Coalescent (sold to Medtronic, 2004), Integrated Biosystems (sold to STEDIM, 2004), NovaCardia (sold to Merck, 2007), Orexigen (NASDAQ: OREX), Peninsula (sold to Johnson and Johnson, 2005), Pulmonx, Somaxon (NASDAQ: SOMX) and Transcept.
